The Russian service of online hotel booking “Oktogo.ru” conducted a study which showed that St. Petersburg is ahead of both Russian and foreign cities in the number of bookings; tourists will go for an average of 2.5 days and spend 3.2 thousand roubles per day for accommodation for the St. Valentine’s Day there.
The top ten of the most popular cities in Russia in the number of tourist trips for February 14 also includes Moscow, Sochi, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Suzdal, Vologda, Kostroma, Irkutsk and Sevastopol. The most popular resort towns for the St. Valentine’s Day will be Sochi, Valdai (Novgorod Oblast) and Yalta (Crimea).
The ranking was compiled according to the hotel bookings from 14 to 15 February 2015 made by the tourists traveling independently. The most expensive city in Russia for weekend is Moscow, where tourists pay an average of 6.3 thousand roubles a day for a hotel stay, and the cheapest city is Kazan (1.6 thousand roubles per day). The capital of the 2014 Olympics, where tourists spend about 5.2 thousand roubles a day on weekend accommodation, will be the place of the longest trips for the St. Valentine’s Day – tourist will spend an average of 6 days there.
