Book about Joseph Stalin written by Anatoly Sobchak, the first mayor of St. Petersburg, will be presented.
The book Stalin. Dossier was written in Paris in 1999. Lyudmila Narusova, the widow of Anatoly Sobchak, promotes his book.
“Anatoly Aleksandrovich did not complete the book, it was kept in his desk and lot of preliminary work was required, such as specifying footnotes, etc. For a few years in the beginning I could not even touch all this for obvious reasons. Later, once I got plenty of time, I and my daughter decided to publish the book as it is. The precautions against totalitarianism conveyed by this book seemed of vital importance to us” — Lyudmila Narusova said.
Anatoly Sobchak was elected the mayor of Saint Petersburg at the first mayor elections in June, 1991. Five years later he lost the city governor elections to Vladimir Yakovlev. This is when the State Office of Public Prosecutor brought a criminal case against him on charge of malversation. On February 20, 2000 Anatoly Sobchak, aged 63, died of a heart attack in the Kaliningrad Region.
