The film Battalion about the legendary Women’s Battalion of Death has been released.
The women’s battalion was founded by Maria Bochkaryova during World War I. The leading role in the film Battalion was played by Maria Aronova.
According to the film director Dmitry Meskhiyev, the film production was launched in August, 2013 and completed in May, 2014. The film-making time fell into two parts: autumn in the Pskov Region and spring in St. Petersburg.
About one and a half kilometers of entrenchment lines were dug out for the film shooting. Machinery, weapons and dresses of that epoch were restored to be filmed.
More than 500 people were involved in the film crowd scenes, with nearly 200 of them playing the battalion women.
