Russia's consumer watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, has imposed a temporary ban on cheese and cheese-like products from Poland due to infringements of regulatory requirements.
"We have recently found some infringements of regulatory requirements in the evaluation of cheese and cheese-like products manufactured in Poland. We had to take a decision to suspend the import of these products starting from February 20 in order to protect rights and safety of Russian consumers," the watchdog's press service reported.
Back in October 2014, the Russian agency banned imports of Ukrainian cheese due to manufacturing irregularities. The similar prohibitive measures by Rospotrebnadzor usually follow the recent complications in political relations between Russia and other countries.
The recent import bans came shortly after Moscow's response to a series of Western sanctions, introducing in August 2014 a one-year embargo on food imports, including dairy products, meat, poultry, fruits and vegetables. Poland and several Baltic and North European nations were reportedly affected the most from Russia's import ban.
