The Deputy Chairman of the Rules Committee of the State Duma Aleksandr Kurdyumov (LDPR) put forward the initiative to remove monuments to the leader of the world revolution Vladimir Lenin from the centres of Russian cities.
He proposes to send letters to the mayors and heads of inhabited localities on behalf of the lower house of parliament with the recommendations to consider the question of transfer of monuments to the leader of the world revolution from the centres to museums or specialized avenues where monuments to other historical personalities can be located, not only those dedicated to Lenin.
He explains such proposal by the fact that the monuments to such odious figure should better be located in a quiet place, far away from vandals. In addition, the MP believes that the time has come to make an inventory of monuments to Lenin, to abandon the dominance of Lenin on Russian streets and squares. It is proposed to keep only true works of art, only in the places where the locals want it. The MP said that the idea of transfer of the monuments must necessarily be discussed with the local population.
