The 36-year-old engineer Valery Nikulin has been awarded the medal For Life Saving in Troitsk, the Chelyabinsk Region.
As reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Valery Nikulin rescued the first grader Nadia Romanenkova who fell under thin ice on October 30, 2014. Risking his own life, the man surmounted 70 meters of dangerous way and pulled the child out of ice captivity. Until the arrival of rescuers and emergency Valery Nikulin did his best to calm the girl down and warm her up. The emergency service took them both to hospital. The girl was diagnosed with supercooling and her savior had numerous cuts. Fortunately, everything turned out well, all safe and sound.
As a true hero, Valery Nikulin is modest and does not like bragging about his feat. He says that every man would do the same in such a situation.
