Anniversary events dedicated to 80 Years of Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics took place on 15 February in St Petersburg and traditionally featured the tremendous show performed by the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastic team coached by Irina Vinner and Olympic winners of golden and silver medals.
Costumes for the performers were designed by the well-known Russian designer Alena Akhmadullina. Feminine and natural beauty inspired the collection and were expressed in the symbols of nature: Alena's individual prints of birch leaves, willow twigs, flower buds, alder flowers and catkins along with the colours of four nature elements: water, soil, fire and air.
A separate line was devoted to Isadora Duncan whose dancing style gave birth to the rhythmic gymnastics. For this item of the show Alena Akhmadullina created the light flowing red gown so closely associated with Isadora, and airy tunics in soft shades of blue, green and pink for the youngest gymnasts, the new generation of the future Russian sport.
Significant participants of the performance were the Olympic champions, winners of golden and silver medals: Yana Kudryavtseva, Darya Dmitrieva, Yanina Batirshina, Evgeniya Kanaeva, Yulia Barsukova, Elena Posevina - legends of the Russian sport. Specially for their performance designer created 'legend' dresses - golden and silver evening gowns which were based on the elements of the gymnastic costumes: combination of brocade and net fabric, smooth lines and textured decorative details.
