Russia and the United States plan to jointly create a new space station after 2024 with participation of partner countries, as a replacement to ISS, Russian space agency Roscosmos head told the press.
"Roscosmos and NASA will work on the program of building a modern orbital station in the near fututre. We will elaborate the details later. It is going to be an open project for any other countries to participate in it", Igor Komarov, the Roscosmos's head said.
Earlier NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said during his visit to the Baikonur cosmodrome that one day the International Space Station would be unable to function properly and then it should be replaced. Bolden noted that both NASA and Roscosmos agreed that part of future building activities should be passed over to the private companies.
The International Space Station was launched in 1998. Now it consists of many different modules, which are gradually being updated. The station brings together the work of Russia, the United States, Canada, Japan, as well as the European Space Agency.
