Russia's Shiveluch Volcano Wakes Up in Kamchatka

The famous Shiveluch volcano, located in Russia's far-eastern Kamchatka territory, started to show the noticeable signs of activivty on Sunday morning, for the fourth time in the past week.

The information has come from the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT), which watches volcanic activity in the region. The team reports that satelltes detected massive ash plumes drifted about 225 km to the north-east of the volcano, which could be a result of the eruption.

The local scientists have already warned the aviation in the region and also issued an ash alert for Kamchatka's residents, advising them to stay indoors and stock up on food and water.

Kamchatka, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, is known for its active volcanoes, and Shiveluch, one of the region's biggest, has been erupting since 2009. Besides Shiveluch there are four big volcanoes which are active currently.
