Zhupanovsky Volcano Eruption

The erupting Zhupanovsky volcano in Kamchatka has thrown a column of ashes into the sky to the height of up to eight kilometers above the sea level, as “Interfax” reported.

“This event took place at the volcano on Wednesday afternoon local time. An ash plume has spread to 40 km to the north-east of the volcano to Kronotsky Bay”- the representative of the Main Directorate of Emergency Ministry of Russia for Kamchatka Oblast told to the agency. According to him, there are no inhabited settlements on the way of the ash plume. No ash falls have been recorded in residential areas of Kamchatka. The area of the volcano eruption has been assigned the “orange” code of aviation hazard, although there are no air routes near Zhupanovsky. Travel companies were recommended to give up organizing tours to the area around the volcano.
