The Russian Elizaveta Maksimova was sentenced to 28 years in prison for drug trafficking in Cambodia. This decision was made on Monday, March 30, by a court in Phnom Penh. According to the Phnom Penh Post, in April 2014 the girl brought 5 kilograms of liquid cocaine in bottles from Brazil. “The court sentenced her to imprisonment for 28 years and a fine in the amount of 50 million riels (about 12.5 thousand dollars)” - the judge Sok Leng said.
The 28-year-old Russian has not acknowledged her guilt. The convict says she did not know about the drugs hidden in her baggage. According to Maksimova, these could have been dropped by her roommate, a citizen of Nigeria, who introduced himself as Joe.
