16 Million People Live Below the Poverty Level In Russia

11.2 percent of the Russian population, or 16.1 million people, had an income below the poverty level in 2014. It is reported by the Federal Statistics Service.

      According to the Statistics Agency, in the first quarter of 2014 incomes below the subsistence level were received by 19.8 million people, in the second quarter – by 17.4 million, in the third - by 16.6 million, in the fourth – by 13.1 million people. In the fourth quarter of last year the size of a living wage in Russia reached 8234 roubles. 7647 roubles of this accounted for the cost of living and another 587 roubles – for expenditures on mandatory fees and charges. Earlier the Federal Statistics Service reported that real wages (adjusted for the growth of prices and tariffs) of the population in Russia fell by 9.9 percent in February 2015, as compared with the same month of last year. In nominal terms it has increased by 5.2 percent and reached 30,620 roubles. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development, the real incomes of the population will fall by 9 percent in 2015. According to the “VTB Capital”, 50-55 percent of the family budget of Russians will be spent on food this year.
