P. I. Tchaikovsky Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre is holding a festival devoted to the 175th anniversary since the composer’s birth.
Besides the anniversary of Pyotr Tchaikovsky on May 7, Perm celebrates the 50th anniversary since the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre was named after the great Russian composer.
During the festival running from May 3 to May 13 covers all the ballets and two operas, as well as several symphonic and chamber compositions by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
The festival was opened on May 3 with the opera Queen of Spades, which was first staged in Perm back in 1928. The world famous ballet Swan Lake was performed on May 4. The opera Eugene Onegin will take place on May 6, the Nutcracker ballet on May 7, and The Sleeping Beauty on May 11.
The festival will be crowned with gala concert on May 13. The musicAeterna Orchestra, the theatre’s Big Symphonic Orchestra and opera soloists will perform compositions and fragments of works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
