The Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation announced a new date of the launch of the Mexican telecommunication satellite MexSat-1. This information is available on the agency’s website.
It is expected that the MexSat-1 apparatus will be launched on May 16, 2015 from the site No. 200 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome with the use of the carrier rocket “Proton-M” with the upper stage “Breeze-M”. Earlier it was planned to perform the launch on April 29, 2015. The damage from the loss of the spaceship is estimated at five billion roubles. Most likely, it will be recognized as space debris.
The launch was postponed at the request of the manufacturer of the satellite - the Boeing company that needed additional time to test it. The customer of the apparatus is the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Mexico. The satellite is designed for 15 years of service and will be installed on the geostationary orbit in the position of 113 degrees Western longitude. The power supply of MexSat-1 will be provided by solar batteries. An L-band reflector and a Ku-band antenna are installed in the apparatus.
