Russia's Defense Ministry has placed an order with the Russian Helicopters Company for creation of the new heavy UAVs with advanced technical characteristics, the company's deputy head told the press on Tuesday.

“We are currently working on heavier types of drones. We've already done all necessary researches and now can say that the new UAVs are expected to weigh over 750 kilograms", Andrey Shibitov from the Russian Helicopters Company said. He also explained that some technical details of the project are now being specified by the Defense Ministry.

Earlier this year engineers at the United Instrument Corporation, a branch of the state-owned innovation corporation Rostec conceptualized a new two-ton unmanned aerial vehicle, capable of transporting supplies, personnel, reconnaissance equipment and onboard weapons systems. A prototype of the two-ton drone will probably be shown on public this summer, after a series of tests.
