The German car manufacturer BMW has postponed a decision on construction of a plant in Russia for an indefinite period. This was reported by Reuters quoting the Head of the Group Norbert Reithofer.
The reason for this decision was the unfavorable situation at the Russian market, due to which the sales of BMW in the country decreased by 40 percent.
“Russia is a real challenge for our company. Today we ask ourselves how the business will go in the future”- Norbert Reithofer said. “The situation at the Russian automobile market is likely to remain difficult” - the top manager added. At the year end of 2014 the sales of BMW in Russia fell by 16.9 percent – down to 37.3 thousand cars. Due to the devaluation of the rouble the car manufacturer had to repeatedly raise the prices on their products in Russia.
