The resident of the village of Moryakovsky Zaton of Tomsk Oblast caused serious damage to the monument to Vladimir Lenin established in the park in the village centre with a sledge hammer, as the press service of the regional department of the Communist Party reported.
The man managed to cut the head and upper torso of a plaster Lenin off by a sledge hammer; judging by the clean cut, the body parts constituted an integral whole. The web-site of the regional police department said that following the application of a local resident, the 34-year-old native of the Kemerovo Oblast suspected of attacking the monument was detained. A criminal case under part 2 of article 214 of the Criminal Code (vandalism) was filed. According to preliminary data, the man was drunk. The monument to Lenin with a cap on his head was erected in the village in 1971. The author of the work is a local sculptor Leonid Mayorov.
