Russia introduces the ban on imports of fish products from Latvia and Estonia. This was reported by the press-secretary of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Yulia Trofimova.

She added that the supervisory agency had notified the veterinary services of the Baltic States about “the concern connected with the nature of the identified repeated violations”.

On March 30 Rosselkhoznadzor reported that the lot of canned sprats from Latvia contained a carcinogen (a substance causing cancer) - benzapyrene. The agency stressed the fact that benzapyrene “is the most common chemical carcinogen of the environment, it is dangerous to humans even in low concentrations”.
