Andrey Tarkovsky Film Festival Opened in Plyos

The 9th International Andrey Tarkovsky Film Festival The Mirror will embrace cinema, theater, and poetry.

The film festival named after the renowned film director Andrey Tarkovsky annually takes place in the cities of Ivanovo, Plyos and Yuryevets of the Ivanovo Region, the areas where the genius of the Russian cinema lived and studied during the war and where he shot The Mirror, one of his masterpiece films.

The festival will be of memorial character just partly. It is rather aimed to emphasize the modernity of Andrey Tarkovsky’s works and, more widely, the concept of auteur cinema.

The main festival program includes 10 films from Germany, Argentina, India, Turkey and other countries. Russia is represented with Evgeny Koryakovsky’s debut work Read, read.

The jury members are the Russian film director Alexandrov Sokurov, actress Maria Mironova, poet Ilya Kutik, and Icelandic film director Fridik Thor Fridriksson. The French writer Emmanuel Karrer is the jury chairman.

About 25 thousand people are expected to visit the festival this year.
