Russia Celebrates International Yoga Day

Sokolniki Park in Moscow will be the main venue for celebrating the 1st International Day of Yoga on June 21.

"At the initiative of India the UN have announced the holiday. On June 21 it will be held for the first time in lots of countries all around the world, including Russia. The yoga festival in Moscow is expected to bring together not less than two thousand people” — the ambassador of India to Russia Pundi Shrinivasan Raghavan comments.

From 10 am the Sokolniki Park visitors will have an opportunity to watch performers from India, participate in free lectures and seminars on healthy and active lifestyle, and of course take various yoga classes conducted by leading yoga schools of Moscow. It will be accompanied with a music concert (Satie Casanova, Andrey Omkar, etc.), and stage plays, as well as drum, fire and dancing shows.

The main event of the 1st International Day of Yoga will be 108 SURYA NAMASKAR! For the first time in Moscow 1 000 people will perform all together 108 rounds of the world famous century-tested sequence of Surya Namaskar, aka the Sun Salutation. Thanks to online broadcasting they will be supported by a few more thousand people in regional yoga and fitness centers and at home all around Russia.

More than 2108 people have already registered for free participation in the festival on its official website
