The students of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NAFU) will get acquainted with high latitudes in practice. The seventh voyage of the floating university set off from Arkhangelsk to the Arctic.
The research vessel “Professor Molchanov” will go through the route: Arkhangelsk - Solovki – the Island of Kolguev – Bely Nos Cape – the settlement of Varnek - MG-2 named after E.K. Fedorov – the Russian Harbor (Novaya Zemlya) - Cape Zhelaniya (Novaya Zemlya) - Champa Island (Franz Josef Land, FJC) - Heiss Island (Franz Josef Land) - Hooker Island (Franz Josef Land) - the Island of Sosnovets - Arkhangelsk. The expedition will return to the capital of Pomorye on July 22.
A part of the route – the North of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land - will run through the territory of the “Russian Arctic” National Park and the “Franz Josef Land” Federal Reserve. The voyage is accompanied by two employees of the National Park. They will not only protect people from polar bears, but also educate them. As the adviser to the director of the park Viktor Kuznetsov noted, there are lectures prepared for students on various topics about the Arctic, Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land: the history of development of the archipelagoes, their inhabitants, cultural heritage, as well as of the work carried out by the National Park on the polar islands.
