Bicycle Walk In Kargopolye

The Agency for Tourism and International Cooperation of Arkhangelsk Oblast has prepared two project proposals to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for participating in the competition for the creation of bicycle and hiking trails in the region, according to the agency.

The report said that the project “Kargopolsky Triathlon” is aimed at creating a new bicycle and pedestrian route to Kargopolye, where you can see the natural attractions that have appeared millions of years ago and have kept their primevalness until today, feel the beauty and majesty of the monuments of wooden architecture, visit the sacred springs and boulders with healing powers.

Another project is aimed at creating a new pedestrian tourist route through Arkhangelsk. The most part of the route passes through the pedestrian areas which are most popular among tourists - Chumbarova- Luchinskogo Street and Severnoy Dviny Embankment, according to “Interfax”.

Kargopolye is a south-western district of the Arkhangelsk Oblast with Kargopol as the center. The ancient town of Russian North, Kargopol was founded in 1146 on the bank of the Onega River - traditional way of Russian merchants to the White Sea and further to Western Europe. For centuries Kargopol had become a large trade center and an important outpost in the north-west outlying districts of the country. Kargopol was the home of the Russian merchant Alexander Baranov - the first chief manager of the Russian-American Company in the late 18th century, 'the ruler of Russian America'.
