Sensational Artifact of Rurik Dynasty Found Near Yaroslavl

In the course of excavation of the Old Russian site of Kleshchin near Yaroslavl archeologists found artifacts of the 10th - 11th centuries, the time of the Ruriks' reign.

Among the finds there was an ancient pendant with a distinctive trident sign of the Ruriks dynasty. The cultural layer that kept fragments of earthenware, ornaments and labor tools dates back to the 11th century.

According to Nikolay Makarov, the head of Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yury Dolgoruky ordered to move Pereslavl to the place of the ancient settlement of Kleshchin.

"These finds are objects of cultural heritage of federal value. This is where the pendant with the Ruriks' trident, which is approximately 1000 years old, was found. It is a true sensation for the scientific community. Every meter of the ground here is harbouring mysteries of the past. Our researchers continue to carry out excavations there and hope to find a lot of interesting material", - Nikolay Makarov pointed out.
