Premiere of the ballet Hero of Our Time staged by Kirill Serebrennikov will close the 239th season of the Bolshoi Theater.

      Premiere performances of The Hero of Our Time will take place on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater from July 22 to July 26 - these will be the last performances of the current season, the Bolshoy Theatre press service reports.

      Kirill Serebrennikov already staged a production in the Bolshoi Theater: it was N. Rimsky-Korsakov's opera Golden Cockerel. The action of the opera was shifted to the modern times.

      The ballet based on the renowned masterpiece of Russian classical literature, Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov is dedicated to the 200th anniversary since the poet's birth, which was celebrated last year. It was the idea of the the Bolshoi Theater's art director Sergei Filinto to stage a ballet on Mikhail Lermontov's work, and Hero of Our Time was selected by Kirill Serebrennikov, who also authored its libretto.
