The Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg has opened an exhibition of art works that have replenished its collection in the last 18 years.
The previous exhibition of the kind took place in 1998.
The exposition includes art works of various genres, types, epochs and art trends. It ranges from Old Russian to the modern art, from numismatics to photos, from sculptures to arts and crafts items.
In 18 years the Russian Museum has managed to acquire more than 2 thousand works, among them true masterpieces by famous Russian artists, such as Ivan Ayvazovsky, Orest Kiprensky, Alexey Venetsianov and others.
The major source of the collection replenishment is gifts from collectors, authors and their successors — altogether over 12 thousand works.
The exhibition runs in the Benois Building of the Russian Museum till October.
