This year public of the Venice Film Festival will see restored Alexander Nevsky, one of the most remarkable works of the classical Soviet cinema .
The great film director Sergey Eisenstein and Dmitry Vasilyev released it in the USSR in 1938.
The film will become part of the retrospective competition Venetian Classics. Newly restored works by renowned film directors will participate in this program. Last year Georgy Daneliya's film I Walk Across Moscow was demonstrated at Venetian Classics.
It took long time and big effort to restore Alexander Nevsky. According to experts of the Mosfilm Studio, they had to clear practically every shot manually. The latest computer technologies failed to cope with this task. Nontheless, now the film quality meets the highest modern standards.
