Chekalin town located in Suvorov district of the Tula region will become the capital of the federal tourism project "Real Russia", which presents small Russian towns with their unique history and culture.
In particular, it was decided to establish tourist information center in Chekalin in 2016. It is also planned to set residency there that will gather experts and participants of the project.
Earlier it was reported that the Tula region was the pilot region starting the promotion of the project "Real Russia". "Real Russia" is a joint project of Russian and foreign travel-journalists and experts in the field of tourism and hospitality, aimed at the development of tourism in the small historic towns of Russia.
In 2014 Chekalin had the smallest population of all the Russian towns. About 975 people live there. There is a unique spa and mud resort "Krainka" located in Chekalin.
Currently, the project involves six small towns in the region: Venyov, Belyov, Bogoroditsk, Odoyev, Yasnogorsk and Chyorny.
According to forecasts, Tula region will host about 2 million tourists in 2015.
