The collection “Meteorites of the Urals and Russia” presented at the permanent exhibition of the Chelyabinsk Regional Museum received a new exhibit. It is another fragment of the Kunashak meteorite brought to the exhibition by Chelyabinsk geologists.
This is already the 23rd exhibit in the showcases dedicated to space. All these meteorites are different in composition, size, color; at first glance may seem unattractive, but they all are the building material forming the current solar system.
Stardust cemented into larger bodies. The new exhibit was discovered on July 5 of this year by Chelyabinsk geologists. The fragments of the Kunashak meteorite are considered rare exhibits. This stone fell on the territory of Kunashaksky District of Chelyabinsk Oblast on June 11, 1949. A total of about twenty of its fragments with a total weight of 200 kilograms were collected during several years. However, the fragments of this meteorite have no longer been found from 1960. Another fragment was found only last year.
