Symbol Of Courage

A bronze monument to the dog called Druzhok appeared on the embankment of Amur in Blagoveshchensk. The dog received a wide fame during the floods in August 2013.

The photos of the dog sitting in the water on the porch of the flooded house in Vladimirovka were distributed all over the Internet. The pet stayed in the flooded house and protected it.

The monument to Druzhok as a symbol of courage, devotion and love to home and homeland was erected at the initiative of the First Channel and the “Amurskaya Pravda” newspaper. The sculpture of Druzhok was created by the famous Amur painter and sculptor Nikolai Karnabeda, and the monument was cast in bronze in the repair and mechanical plant in Blagoveshchensk.

They started to implement the project in September 2014. “This monument is not just a monument to the dog, it is a monument to all people who were not frightened after the flood in 2013, did not leave and stayed in their city districts, restoring their houses” - the general director of the “Amurskaya Pravda” publishing house Aleksandr Shcherbinin said. “The dog called Druzhok who became a symbol of courage, devotion, love to home and homeland during the floods in Amur Oblast in 2013” - this is said on the plate attached to the parapet.
