The scientists jointly with the staff of Tigireksky Reserve announced the discovery of the species previously unknown to science. The article about the discovery is published in the famous “Zootaxa” magazine.
The new species was given the name: Leptoiulus tigirek. It belongs to vegetable-eating millipedes. Currently the work on the research of millipedes is carried out by the scientists from the Altai State University, jointly with their colleagues from the Institute of Biology and Soils of the Far Eastern Branch of RAS.
It has been possible to determine that Leptoiulus tigirek is a millipede of a medium size (body length up to 3.5 cm). It lives in the bushes - prairieweed, pea trees, honeysuckle, bottomland willows and in forests: taiga, larch open woods, larch-birch forests. Taiga and bushes make up the major part of their habitat, with the population amounting to 74% of all above-mentioned centipedes.
