The Ministry of Forestry and Hunting of Sakhalin Oblast listened to the numerous requests of the residents of the island region and made the cultural and historical monument of regional significance - the memorial on the place of the reburial of the guerrilla unit under the command of the Captain B.V. Grotto-Slepikovsky who died during the defense of Sakhalin in 1905 – more available to tourists.
The abandoned way that is in some places build on the plank road leading from the Pikhtovy settlement to the memorial turned into a comfortable eco-trail with the length of 12 km. The officials of the Ministry together with the district foresters of Korsakovskoe forestry turned an abandoned road into a safe and convenient route for lovers of history and nature of Sakhalin on their own in a short period of time. Six information signs – notices – were installed along the trail. The trail runs through the two protected areas of Korsakovsky district – “Ozersky Elnik” and “Tunaicha Lake”. Alongside with this, the tourists will be pleasantly surprised by the resting places equipped specially for them.
