All Russians will get a chance to have two international passports at the same time.

      So far only diplomats and certain officials in Russia are entitled to have two international passports (one of them is civil, and the other one is diplomatic).

      If the legislative initiative "is approved of, anyone will be eligible to get a biometric international passport while one's old-type international passport is still valid.

      However, the government pays attention to the fact that for issuing the second international passport it is necessary to receive fast and valid information from the all-federal data base on the issued international passports. There is a risk that it will not be possiblefully to fully trace the reliability of data provided by the citizen for obtaining the second international passport.

      The database of the Federal Migration Service covers only biometric passports.
