The All-Russia People's Front calls for prohibiting deforestation within a 70 km radius of the Moscow Ring Road.
The activists suggest "a green shield" for Moscow, which implies restriction of deforestation and the ban on major construction work around the city.
The banners set up near several metro stations inform Moscow dwellers how the forest resources have been depleted over the recent 70 years.
The Green Shield program provides transferring the remaining trees within a 70 kilometers radius of the MKAD Ring Road to the state forestry fund of the Moscow Region. Besides, it suggests that a special zone is established within one kilometer from the Ring Road, where any major construction will be forbidden.
Campaigns in support of the Gree Shield initiative have also been launched in ten large Moscow satellite cities.
