The action Plant One Million Trees has been launched in the Irkutsk Region that suffered massive fires in summer.
Nursery little pine trees have already been prepared on special sites.
The organizers - the Baikal volunteers - will take the planting stock even to hard-to-reach spots. Special teams will go to taiga for several days to plant new trees. The project has united hundreds of people in the Irkutsk Region: school pupils, students, the staff of forestries and various enterprises, and activists of public organizations.
"Citizens from various regions of Russia take part in this action as volunteers. It is named Plant One Million Trees, so we plan that reforestation will be carried out not only this week, but is a key to the future" - the coordinator of the Young Guard public organization, Irina Volodchenko, emphasized.
The last forest fire was put out in the Irkutsk Region on September 22. 500 thousand hectares of wood were destroyed by fires in the area. Volunteers plan to work till the end of this autumn and resume reforestation in spring.
