The annual 13th festival Modern Art in the Traditional Museum starts in the Creative cluster ART MUSE in the Vasilyevsky Island today.
Original projects by modern Russian and foreign artists will be presented in large and small museums of St. Petersburg. The opening ceremony will include a performance of the Sever-7 art group and presentation of art projects. Free buses will take visitors to all the expositions. Entrance to all the museums is free on the opening day.
The main concept of the project is to bring together traditional culture and modern art. This year the festival is updating its format and has a common subject for all expositions - Hyperlocal: Big Discoveries. According to the project curator Alisa Prudnikova, the 13th festival's works are researches of life around at the microlevel. Modern artists resort to details.
The festival Modern Art in the Traditional Museum has been held in St. Petersburg since 2000. Artists from 11 countries, 170 projects and 70 Petersburg museums took part in it over 15 years. In 2006 the festival became the nominee of the All-Russian award INNOVATION.
