“Exotarium” Pavilion in the Moscow zoo is open again. It has several new exhibitions: a group of predators with a common Hawaiian moray and a peacock grouper, a colorful showcase with a live coral reef, as well as a surprisingly peaceful spectacled caiman Bonya living in the same pool with small fish.
The design of some of the enclosures has changed, live plants appeared there, the exposition with green iguanas was redesigned, there are a larger number of these animals now. Besides, the zoo is preparing an exhibition of freshwater stingrays, lizards and a new cold tank.
Exotarium is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Moscow Zoo has come a long way from its beginnings as a small zoological garden to the large scientific, educational and conservation institution that it is today. The zoo was founded in 1864 on the original 17th century territory of the village of Voskresenkoye near the Presnya River. The nearby Presnya ponds were famous for their pure water, and in the 18th century a large fish farm was set up here.
