The Cathedral Mosque was solemnly opened on September 23, on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, after 10 years of reconstruction.

The area of the mosque complex has been increased 20 times, up to 19 thousand square meters. The Cathedral Mosque in Moscow is the largest in Europe. The Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdullatipov who came to the ceremony noted that the residents of Moscow should not treat the mosque as something hostile. The Head of the Council of Muftis Ravil Gainutdin expressed hope that the opening of the mosque would help to strengthen peace and fraternal relations between the peoples of Russia and other countries.

The opening ceremony of the mosque was attended by President Putin. According to him, the extension of Muslim cultural and educational centres will help to fight against the influence of extremist propaganda.
