Half of Russians Doubt Possibility of Passing Unified State Exam after School

School knowledge is not enough for entering a higher educational institution with the Unified State Exam.

54 percent of respondent to a survey conducted by The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center hold such an opinion.

69 percent of Moscow and St. Petersburg residents believe they have to take private classes to prepare for the state examination. Only 34 percent of respondents hope it is possible to enter an educational institution without assistance of third-party experts. 25 percent of them live in Moscow and St. Petersburg and 39 percent stay in rural areas. The remaining 12 percent of Russians found it difficult to answer.

42 percent of Russians shout support for cancellation of test part in the Unified State Exam, whereas 23 percent are against cancelling it. 1,6 thousand people from 130 populated localities of 46 regions of Russia took part in the opinion survey.

A similar survey earlier conducted by the Levada Center revealed that nearly every second Russian (48 percent) considers that the Unified State Examination is worse in assessing knowledge than its predecessor, the traditional school exam system. Only 10 percent hold the opposite opinion. The modern education system satisfies only the fifth part (19 percent) of all Russian citizens.
