12 Thousand Security Cameras to be Set Up in St. Petersburg This Year

In the run-up to the FIFA World Cup 2018 municipal authorities have attended to safety in city streets.

The State Committee for Communications and Information Technology has started implementing the project on covering St. Petersburg streets with a video surveillance system.

All cameras will be integrated into a uniform system, with all the data processed in a single center, stored for 10 days and analyzed. Records will be accessible to all the departments in charge, if authorized to work with such information.

12 020 cameras will have been set up in St. Petersburg by the end of 2015: 2518 out of them in yards, 226 in places of mass gatherings, and 9507 cameras will be of intercom type. Thus the city video surveillance system will include 16 108 security cameras.
