Unity Day in Russia Today

Today Russia is celebrating the Day of People's Unity.

It was founded in 2005 to commemorate historical events of 1612, when the people's volunteer corps headed by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky liberated Moscow from the Polish interventionists. Historically this holiday is associated with the end of the Time of Troubles in Russia of the 17th century.

The events dedicated to the Unity Day are running all over the country today.

The anthem of Russia was performed by people in the streets of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. About two thousand people got together for a meeting and a flashmob in the Korabelnaya Embankment, Vladivostok.

A festive bicycle ride with participation of Olympians was started in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

A procession and a meeting of several thousand people took place in Moscow. Numerous master classes, exhibitions and concerts are held in the city streets today.
