Closest "Relatives" of Human Hepatitis A Found by Scientists

Researchers from Russia and Germany have found the closest "relatives" of human hepatitis A in rodents. This discovery will help to develop a new medicine for human hepatitis.

      The head of the laboratory of the Poliomyelitis and Viral Encephalitis Institute Alexander Lukashev reported about it.

      "The closest "relatives" of this virus were found long time ago, and naturally, it was the case with primacies, and the following closest "relatives" have now been found in rodents", - Mr. Lukashev said.

      "The detection of "relatives" of the hepatitis viruses gives hope that they can be used in researches and it will strongly facilitate development of new medicines", - the scientist explained.
