The Big Universal Russian Dictionary has been published in the framework of the national program Dictionaries of the 21st Century.
It came off the press for the Day of Dictionary celebrated on November 22, the birthday of the great lexicographer Vladimir Dahl, the author of the Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language.
According to the authors' concept, the edition is destined to be on a par with the world famous universal dictionaries by the Oxford University, Longman publishing houses (Pearson Education) and Duden.
"I am very glad that titanic work of 25 years has been crowned with the publication of the dictionary in the Year of Literature in Russia. This work is one of the examples of implementing the modern concept of teaching the Russian language and literature", - the rector of the A.S. Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language, Margarita Rusetskaya said.
