A monument to the heroes of one of the most popular Russian comedy films of all time ‘Gentlemen of Fortune’ (Dzhentlmeny udachi’, 1972) has been set up in the Kazakh city of Taraz.
The monument is timed to mark the 35th jubilee of the people's favourite movie.
The sculptures of Dotsent, Kosoi, Vasiliy Alibabayevich and camel Vassia are ready. The creation of Khmyr’ sculpture is under way.
The dwellers of Taraz city are proud of the fact that their city is referred to once in the film (earlier Taraz was named Djambul), though none of the actors had ever been there and the filming activities took place far from Djambul or even Kazakhstan.
Nonetheless, many people in that city and all over the former USSR countries still remember the film almost by heart.
