Gold Mask Festival Kicks off in St. Petersburg

Nominees of Russia's largest theatre award - The Gold Mask - will perform in Saint Petersburg for three days.

The Gold Mask is closely related to St. Petersburg. Petersburg theaters have always been among the main contenders for the festival awards. In 2015 The Cherry Orchard staged by Lev Dodin in the Maly Drama Theatre became the winner in the main nomination.

In December participants of the Gold Mask 2016 will visit St. Petersburg. Performances of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Studio of Theater Art will be presented in the Aleksandrinsky Theater and the Youth Theater on Fontanka on December 13, 15, and 16.

The Gold Mask is the largest theatre award of Russia and its contest festival has been held since 1993.
