A public poll has finalized three options for the name of the new Russian spacecraft: Gagarin, Vector and Federation.
This was reported about in the press center of the Energy rocket and space corporation.
According to the press center, over 35 thousand people took part in the poll, and every third of them voted for the name Gagarin.
35,105 thousand people who took part in the final public poll have selected three names for the spacecraft: 10389 voices for Gagarin, 4866 voices for Vector, and 3604 voices for Federation. The name competition for the new Russian spacecraft was organized by the Energy rocket and space corporation with the assistance of Roscosmos and the Associated Rocket and Space Corporation in August, 2015. In total about six thousand original versions of names were suggested for the spaceship.
On December 23 the public poll came to an end. The competition jury headed by the CEO of Roskosmos Igor Komarov will choose the winner by January 11, 2016 and announce the results on January 15, 2016. The first prize for the winner is a trip to the Baikonur Cosmodrome to see the launch of the transport piloted ship Soyuz to the International Space Station in the spring of 2016.
