According to Vladimir Uiba, the head of the Federal Medical Biological Agency four operating theatres with proton accelerators will be opened in Demitrovgrad before the end of 2018.
"Before the end of 2018 we will start four operating theatres for treating patients with proton accelerators in Russia" - Mr. Uiba said. They will be opened in Demitrovgrad of the Ulyanovsk Region.
"There are more than 60 thousand people suffering now from cancer of brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. It is the most malicious oncology that is chemoresistant. The only possible treatment for such patients is with proton accelerators," - Mr. Uiba explained.
The project of a hi-tech nuclear medicine center in the Ulyanovsk Region includes construction of over twenty hospital buildings. These are a proton center with the admission capacity of over 1200 patients a year, a clinical hospital for 312 patients, a rehabilitation centre, a radio nuclide diagnostics centre, an outpatient hospital for 240 visits per shift, and others.
