Launching of the biggest and mightiest nuclear ice breaker in the world will take place in Russia in 2016.
The nuclear ice breaker Arctic of the project 22220 will be launched on May 26, the 160th anniversary day of its manufacturing enterprise.
Afterwards the vessel construction will be completed on the shore, and at the end of 2017 after all the tests required it will be commissioned to the customer – the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Atomfleet.
It is a reminder that the central construction department Iceberg has designed a new generation of ice breakers. The vessel Arctic is a head ship that was laid in 2013. The second serial ice breaker Ural will be laid in September, 2016. All the serial atomic powered vessels are planned to be put into operation before 2020.
