Experts of the laboratory Neurotechnologies and Recognitions at the Southern Federal University state that rats can find traces of explosives in the air better than the existing gas and gas-liquid chromatographs.
They inserted a special chip into a rat’s head to be able to observe the brain activity at the moment of its reacting to the presence of explosives in the air. The data from the chip is sent to monitors of special services.
The scientists point out that rats have a keen sense of smell, and their small size makes it possible for them to get into the most hard-to-reach spots and find explosive substances and devices there if any.
