Novosibirsk Scientists Develop Detector for Search of Dark Matter

Implementation of the international experiment will take more than five years.

As the deputy director of the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Siberian Branch, RAS Yury Tikhonov said, Novosibirsk scientists will participate in the international experiment The Dark Side aimed at search of the dark matter.

Presently Russian scientists look for dark matter by means of the Cedar detector that runs on krypton. A similar experimental installation running on cheaper argon will be created in the framework of the international project.

The works will be carried out in an underground mine to reduce the environmental influence. It will take no less than five years to create such equipment and prepare for the experiment.
