Russia’s Nikita Kucherov scored a pair for the Tampa Bay Lightning becoming the first star at Amalie Arena on Sunday in a game against the Florida Panthers, leading his team to their fifth consecutive victory.
“Kucherov gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 4:21 in the second period on a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Roberto Luongo on the glove side. Nikita Nesterov and Anton Stralman were credited with the assists,” according to the NHL’s official website.
Kucherov scored a second time, hitting the empty net with 1:24 remaining for his 18th goal of the season. Watch the highlights of the game below.
"As we win games and score goals everyone is confident," Kucherov was quoted by the NHL website as saying. "I think we are playing to our structure really well. This was a tough game. There wasn't much room."
"I don't care what team you are in the League; you win a few in a row, you think you can win every single game," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "The more we've won, that's kind of how that feeling's been on the bench and that's really helped us so far."
